For The First Time, IIM Kozhikode Awards 629 MBA Degrees At Its 21st Annual Convocation

IIM Kozhikode has joined the growing list of IIMs awarding the MBA degree instead of diploma to 629 graduates of its PGP management program at its 21st Annual Convocation on April 6.

The convocation saw a 10% growth in graduates compared to the previous year as well as a 16% increase in the number of female students graduating.

Seven students received the PhD. As many as 376 students of the 2-year PGP class of 2019, including 107 females, along with the 253 students of Executive PGP 2019, including 40 were females– 94 from EPGP Kochi and 159 from EPGP Kozhikode received the MBA degree.

Chief Guest at the ceremony, D Shivakumar, Group Executive President, Aditya Birla Group, spoke about choices one has to make in life. “The choices we make define us. The genius made it a point to learn from his mistake and thus ensured he never repeated the same mistake,” he said.

“You make 1000 decisions every day based on the choices placed before you. So, you are making big decisions and small decisions, good decisions and bad decisions, all in one day. Small good decisions have a long term impact and become habits,” he added.

This year’s data shows that a total of 107 girls (29%) participated in the final placements with the highest CTC of Rs 38 lakh and average CTC of around Rs 20 lakh. The average CTC for female students in consulting, operations and sales & marketing role was more than the male candidates.

Congratulating the graduating students, A. Vellayan, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIMK said, “Education is everywhere with superficial variance but the quality of education imparted by premier Institutes like the IIMs, redefines and restructures education itself. The rigour in learning makes the students better citizens and better leaders.

“Students graduating from this Institute are groomed for being entrepreneurs, agents of change in the dynamic business environment having a customer-centric orientation and a global economic, political and cultural mindset,” he added.

Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIMK in his second term at the Institute quoted placement statistics to say that the female students managed to get higher pay than their male counterparts in this season’s final placements.

“This year’s data shows that a total of 107 girls (29%) participated in the final placements with the highest CTC of Rs 38 lakh and average CTC of around Rs 20 lakh. The average CTC for female students in consulting, operations and sales & marketing role was more than the male candidates.

The IIMK Gold medals for scholastic performances were awarded to three students in the order of merit to Anchal, Priya Agarwal and Akash Sehra of the PGP batch. The IIMK Gold Medal for alround performance was awarded to Murali Siva K. of PGP.

The IIMK Gold Medal for the Scholastic Performance for EPGP Kozhikode Campus was awarded to Nithin Kumar T.C.V. and IIMK Chairman’s gold medal for meritorious performance for EPGP Kochi Campus was awarded to Nisha K.R.
