The Management Aptitude Test (MAT), conducted by All India Management Association (AIMA), is a national-level management entrance examination. The test scores are used for admission to various MBA, PGDM and allied management programs in more than 600 Business schools in the country.

MAT, an objective-type test with multiple-choice questions, held four times in a year, allows candidates the option of a paper-based or computer-based test.

The 2016 edition of the test was held in February and May. The next text dates are on September 4 (paper-based) and September 10 (computer-based). The results will be announced on September 26.

Being held in 51 test cities across the country, MAT scores will be valid for admission to MBA 2017-19 batch.

Candidates need to answer 200 questions in 150 minutes. A composite score of 800 and a score above 450 or 500 is considered as good score.

Unlike most other MBA entrance exams with only 3 or 4 sections, MAT has 5 sections with equal weightage.

These are: Indian and Global Environment, Language Comprehension, Data Analysis and Sufficiency, Mathematical Skills, Intelligence and Critical Reasoning.

Each section has 40 questions of one mark. One fourth of the mark gets deducted for every wrong answer.

Language comprehension has a 30 minute suggested time limit which means that the candidate would have less than a minute per question.

This section will have Reading Comprehension passages as well as questions based on Language and Vocabulary usage.

Reading Comprehension passages demand good reading speed with accuracy and ability to spot the key words and sentences which contain answers to the questions.

In terms of difficulty, MAT is considered easier than other MBA admission tests like CAT, XAT, CMAT and SNAP.
