Tsinghua-INSEAD Executive MBA Application Deadline on April 17

TIEMBA, the Tsinghua-INSEAD Executive MBA, is a one of its kind, modular, dual-degree programme for experienced executives that was ranked number 2 by the Financial Times in 2016. the TIEMBA is a unique programme designed by INSEAD and China’s prestigious Tsinghua University in Beijing.

The last date for submitting application for the 18-month program is April 17. It utilises INSEAD’s global presence and Tsinghua’s in-depth expertise of business in China, with lessons that can also be applied to other emerging markets.

The TIEMBA aims at offering the best of East and West, learning and working, technical knowledge and soft skills with classes being held in Beijing, Singapore, Abu Dhabi & Fontainebleau.

Participants will be able to learn a lot from the diverse cultural, geographical and professional experiences of your classmates. While majority of them are working in Asia Pacific, they bring with them global expertise from various industries that will widen the students’ network and enliven class room experience with a world of perspectives.

Class Profile

The current batch comprises 47 participants from 18 countries. Of them, 28% are female and average working experience of 13 years. The average age is 36 years. About 36% are working outside the home country.

INSEAD’s renowned researchers and Tsinghua’s influential policy makers share delivery of a jointly designed curriculum that plays to their respective strengths. The distinctive and life-changing Leadership Development Programme runs throughout – alongside the academic content.

The Program

Focusing on business fundamentals, TIEMBA offers 12 core courses during the first seven modules. Designed to review, revive, and increase the participant’s functional prowess, business theory is validated through discussion of real-world business application. Each core course will culminate with an exam to test the students’ understanding of the concepts and ability to implement these in problem solving and decision-making.

Two weeks of elective courses offers the opportunity for greater exploration into disciplines of interest. Participants are encouraged to step outside their comfort zone, taking the opportunity to explore areas where they have had less exposure. To further enhance professional development, TIEMBA graduates may return after graduation to complete additional electives.

Recognising that managers in the real world must cope with complex situations as they occur, under conditions of uncertainty, with incomplete information. “Key Management Challenges” program deals with broader multidisciplinary issues that affect the entire corporation.

Leadership Development Programme (LDP) based on the pioneering group-coaching work of INSEAD’s Global Leadership Centre. The objective is to help the participant to develop their own authentic leadership style. Participants are divided in group sof about four people, selected for diversity of backgrounds, to embark on a journey of self-discovery and growth with a professional coach.

The 18-months dual degree programme, since its launch on June 8, 2007 with 45 participants from 17 countries, has graduated more than 300 participants. Close to 30% of alumni hold the job titles of President, Managing Director or CEO, three years after graduation.

The success of the partnership between INSEAD business school and Tsinghua University School of Economics & Management (Tsinghua SEM) of China, prompted the announcement last year of an extension of their partnership for another six years.

Admission Requirements

China’s Ministry of Education has implemented a new requirement – PRC nationals who wish to enrol in an Executive MBA granted by a Chinese Institution, must register online for a pre-entry exam. The online registration system opens in October 2017. The entry exam will be conducted in December 2017 at Tsinghua University in Beijing for the TIEMBA 2018 intake.

Applications could be submitted through Tsinghua or through INSEAD’s online application form. The application will be evaluated equally by either admissions office.

Applicants are required to submit the testimony of two referees, (written in English)from individuals qualified to comment about the candidate’s professional achievements and career potential. These are not freehand letters, but online forms where the applicant’s strengths will be ranked and specific open-ended questions will be posed.

These forms are available via links included in the application. At least one of the letters should be written by a direct supervisor. The second letter is at your discretion, but should be someone who can speak to your potential.

Applicants are required to attach scanned copies of the official transcripts of their relevant degrees and diplomas in the Supporting Documents section of the online application form. Should applicants be admitted copies of transcripts must be officially certified and sent to the Admissions Office. Certification and submission can be done on any campus in coordination with a marketing or admissions personnel.

Applicants’ GMAT Scores will only be considered when forwarded directly from the test centre.

For Insead, Pre-selected candidates are invited to an interview with either a faculty member or an alumnus to complete the assessment. Interviews will take place on INSEAD’s Asian or European campus, in the applicant’s country of residence or via telephone/web conference.

For Tsinghua, Pre-selected candidates would be invited to a jury interview with the Dean, Director and/or senior alumni. Interviews take place on campus on a series of pre-defined dates.

On completion and documentation of the interview, the Admissions Committee will convene to review the application in full, and will make a decision regarding admission. The decision will be confirmed by both institutions. Applicants will be advised by mail or e-mail of the outcome as soon as a final decision is reached.

Fees and Financing

The TIEMBA is a substantial investment in time and money that needs to be carefully evaluated and anticipated. Around 50% of the TIEMBA participants receive full tuition support from their sponsoring companies. The remaining participants are roughly balanced between self-funded, loans or partial corporate funding.

The tuition fee for the 2017 starting class is US$125,000 and covers teaching fees, all academic materials, access to the libraries, IT services, access to the INSEAD fitness centre, lunches and some official dinners.
