Registration for NMAT by GMAC Goes Up by 17%

Registration for NMAT by GMAC exam has gone up by 17% to close at 82,928 in 2016 compared to 70,950 in the previous year, according to the Graduate Management Admission Council, owner and administrator of the computer-based test required for admission to MBA and other post graduate diploma programs in several of India’s top management institutes.

The test was held from October 7 to December 20.The rise in the number of candidates this year is attributed to the addition of 5 new test centres and 3 institutions, the Xavier University, Bhubaneswar; MISB Bocconi and Shiv Nadar University. Several new features to facilitate a hassle free registration process were introduced this year including single sign-on and choice of 12 mobile wallet options for easy payment were also introduced this year.

GMAC Product Management Director Vikram Shah said the test was being promoted as a platform for selection as opposed to elimination. Among those who registered for the test, 39% are women and 46% non-engineers testifying to NMAT by GMAC continuing to be the most diverse education test in India.

GMAC’s focus is to provide the tools and information necessary for schools and talented candidates to discover and evaluate each other. Introduction of candidate convenient features like single sign-on, additional test access, flexibility of payment modes and 19 accepting institutions, NMAT by GMAC is poised to be the most candidate friendly management entrance exam in India, he added.

GMAC Regional Director, South Asia Gaurav Srivastava said the body has ensured that candidates enjoy the benefit of a smoother overall testing experience. The online scores are sent to multiple schools free of cost. Schools also enjoy benefits like free access to a large and diverse set of candidates who are interested in them through a state of the art dashboard which allows them to grow their applicant pool and diversify their student body.

NMAT by GMAC also provides candidates preparation material in both online and offline modes with the Official Guide for NMAT by GMAC that includes retired questions from previous years.

Five new testing centres have been opened in Pune, Gurgaon, Jamshedpur, Baroda and Manipal increasing the total number of centres to 32 in 24 locations in India. GMAC had acquired ownership of the exam from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) in March 2015 and had re-branded it as NMAT by GMAC.

The test is accepted by 19 institutions. These are: SVKM’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Xavier University, ICFAI Business School (IBS), MISB Bocconi, Alliance University, University of Petroleum & Energy Studies (UPES), VIT University, Thapar School of Management, BML Munjal University, Amity University, Woxsen School of Business Management, SRM University, Hyderabad Business School – GITAM University, Chitkara University, Institute of Management – JK University, Ansal University, Mody University, Shoolini University, Shiv Nadar University and Gitam School of International Business.
