NMAT by GMAC Registration Up 7%, Women Registration 40%

The registration for NMAT by GMAC, a computer-based objective type multiple-choice exam, accepted by management institutes in India as a criterion for admission, saw a 7% growth closing at 88,454 as against 82,928 in the previous year.

The registration of women went up to 40% and 47% for non-engineering candidates, the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), which conducts the exam, said.

GMAC had acquired ownership of the exam from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) in March 2015. It was subsequently rebranded as NMAT by GMAC.

This year, among the new features, the candidates were able to register for the exam at nmat.org.in. Two new features were introduced for their convenience in the form of ‘multiple login methods’ and ‘additional payment options.’ The exam window was from October 5 to December 18.

The multiple logins allowed candidates to register through Google, Facebook etc. They were also given the facility of the auto-generated One Time Password (OTP) and even last year’s credentials for the purpose. Candidates were also able to register for the exam using their mobile phones.

GMAC Regional Director (South Asia) Gaurav Srivastava said for the first time, the exam was held at four international locations in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

He also noted that the exam has recorded steady growth in registrations over a period of time. Last year, it recorded a 17 % growth in registration numbers. This year, 20 new test centres were launched in India. Last year, the registrations closed at 82,928, up from 70,950 in 2015.

The NMAT by GMAC exam is accepted by the following institutes: SVKM’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Xavier School of Human Resource Management, Bhubaneswar, Xavier School of Rural Management – Bhubaneswar, Xavier School of Sustainability – Bhubaneswar, Xavier Faculty of Management (Urban Management & Governance) – Bhubaneswar, MISB Bocconi, ICFAI Business School (IBS), Hyderabad and other locations, Shiv Nadar University, Alliance University, VIT University, Amity University, Thapar School of Management, Woxsen School of Business Management, University of Petroleum & Energy Studies (UPES), GITAM School of International Business, Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad Business School, GITAM University, SRM University, BML Munjal University and Mody University.
