MBA Specialisations? The Choice Is Yours

The MBA, for long, has been considered to be a pathway to a boardroom career with B-schools focussing on developing the students’ general management abilities. However, the demands of an increasingly technology-driven markets and workplaces have led to the demand for specialised programs.

Thus, it is not surprising to find MBA programs in Sports Management, Leisure & Tourism Management and Design Management to name a few. For instance, the EU Business School offers as many as 11 specialised programs.

Sports Management speciality is offered in a 2-year full-time MBA format at San Diego University’s Graduate School of Business. The AASCB accredited program with an average GMAT score of 592 has a tuition fee of $40,000-$50,000.

At EU Business School, there is no minimal intake and the speciality selected by a student will run. Margaryta Pugach who enrolled for design management at EU found herself to be the only student.

EU Business School offers the program at its Barcelona and Switzerland campuses. Graduates pursue careers in Team and club management, Marketing and promotions management, Sports media & public relations and corporate sponsorship.

Meanwhile, the University of Liverpool has a Football Industries MBA. Others offering Sports Business MBA includes the University of Oregon’s Lundquist College of Business and Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

MBA in Hospitality and Tourism Management is offered at the Ostelea School of Tourism and Hospitality International. The tuition fee is Euro 18,667. The program that runs for three terms offers credits of 68 CH/90 ECTS in campuses located in Barcelona, Geneva and Montreux.

Along with specialisation, the core courses that enhance leadership skills, entrepreneurial flair and an appreciation of sustainability are also taken care of to provide students with the necessary expertise in business fundamentals.

At EU, the MBA in Leisure & Tourism Management includes courses in strategic tourism marketing and e-business in tourism in the third term.

The students who chose the MBA in Communications & PR program will study public relations and organizational communication. Both will focus on the same modules in the first two terms, covering basics such as marketing, managerial accounting and global economics.
