The batch comprised of 19 students. Of these, 8 specialized in the area of Marketing, 7 chose Finance as their major specialization, 3 took to Operations and the remaining 1 chose Human Resources Management.

While 50% of the batch had B.Tech, 30% had B.com/BSc and 10% each had BBA and BE degrees.

Work experience-wise, 56% were freshers, 28% had 2-4 years experience, 11% had less than 2 years experience and 5% less than 6 years experience.

In classification by industry, 29% each were placed in BFSI and Consulting firms, 18% in Telecom and 12% each in Agro Industry and Print & Media.

Being a new entrant in the field, some companies were initially reluctant to deal with MDI Murshidabad. Some others chose to adopt a wait and watch policy. To remedy matters, the Chairperson, Placements, undertook a pan India tour to personally meet the key decision makers of the industries following which a number of companies agreed to participate in the placements.

The students were informed about the tentative dates for the placements and started preparations that involved reviewing and refreshing the academic knowledge they had imbibed during the course. They also did careful background check on the companies by browsing the internet over and above the group preparations.

Meanwhile, the companies were in touch with Chairperson Placements and subsequently with the student coordinators of the Placement Committee (Placecom).

Later, Placecom took it upon themselves to update the companies with information that the latter sought, including the Placement Brochure and the students profiles. Placecom was engaged in seeking, verifying, and updating their peers’ biodata.

During this process, most of the company representatives displayed a reluctance to physically travel to Murshidabad. They preferred telephonic conversations and video interactions through Skype.

While 7 companies confirmed their participation at the placements, only one, ICICI Bank decided to visit the campus in Murshidabad. Another company, Tata Teleservices conducted a day-long process which included group discussions, psychometric tests, and personal interviews at their Salt lake facility in Kolkata. The remaining 5 companies conducted interviews through telephone and Skype.(Image Source:Google.com)
