IIMC PGP Final Placement: 29% Offers in Financial Services

The Final Placement for the 52nd Batch of PGP (2015-17) at IIM Calcutta saw an impressive number of 137 offers in Banking and Financial Services comprising 29% of the total offers.

The PGP Class of 2017 comprises 458 students, of whom more than 93% hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. About 3% are Commerce graduates.

While 6 students had opted out of the placements process, the remaining 452 participants received a total number of 474 offers. The median CTC offer was Rs. 20 Lakh per annum.

The final placement offers totalled 232, lateral placements offers 112 and pre-placement offers were 130.

Apart from BFS sector, Consulting came up in the second spot with 22% of the offers followed by General Management with 15% , a lot of which came during the Lateral Placement Season.

Operations & Systems sector, which also includes e-commerce and product management, came up with 14% of the offers. Sales & Marketing roles contributed to 12% of the pie, and continued to attract talent.

Organized in the second week of February, more than 160 firms participated in the process conducted in two phases with lateral placements being offered to students with prior experience and final placements for all those eligible.

During the Laterals season, the recruitment is based on the relevance, quality and duration of the past work experience of the eligible candidates. It offers a unique proposition where the candidates and firms are allowed to mutually discuss the roles & responsibilities and negotiate on the remuneration.

As a result, the students have the choice and flexibility to tailor their own role & fit in the organization. the Laterals season concluded with a total of 112 offers.

General Management roles, where students get to work across multiple functions in the first year, were the most sought after during Lateral placements. Key recruiters included Aditya Birla Group, Ericsson, Hinduja Group, Tata Administrative Services, and Wipro Global 100.

E-Commerce sector was an active recruiter as well, with offers from Amazon, Ola, Paytm and Uber to name a few.

Star India and Asian Paints were the major recruiters in Sales & Marketing, whereas Yes Bank and Societe Generale recruited for Finance roles.

In Banking & Financial Services several prestigious financial firms like Arga Investment, Avendus, Bank of America (BAML), Citibank, Edelweiss, Goldman Sachs, HSBC and JP Morgan came up with lucrative offers.

In Consulting domain, the students secured a total of 59 Pre-Placement Offers, bettering the previous year’s record by a huge margin. While firms like Bain & Co., Boston Consulting Group, McKinsey (15 offers each) and AT Kearney recruited 53 students through PPOs and Final Placements, other recruiters included Accenture, Alvarez & Marsal, Deloitte, Ernst & Young etc.

Sales & Marketing, yet another sought after sector, came up with a variety of roles on offer. Major firms from the FMCG domain like HUL, ITC, Johnson & Johnson, P&G, Reckitt Benckiser etc made offers. Other major recruiters include Bennett Coleman & Co, Coca Cola and Samsung.

Conglomerates recruiting students in leadership roles included Aditya Birla Group, Airtel, CK Birla Group, Reliance Industries Ltd, and TAS.

Lucrative international offers for leadership roles were made by Nokia Networks, a first time recruiter.

Operations sector is preferred by the candidates looking for on-ground experience, while the technology enthusiasts look out for Systems and IT roles. Notable recruiters include Airtel, Ernst &Young, IBM, Johnson & Johnson, Yatra.com etc.
