IIM C Summer Placement: Banking & Financial Services Top Recruiters At 26%

IIM Calcutta saw 100% Summer Placements with all the 458 candidates in the PGDM Class of 2020 accepting offers from more than 120 companies that participated in the process in just two days.

The highest number of offers at 26% were made in the Banking and Financial Services domain with Citibank being the biggest recruiter. Other recruiters included Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Barclays, Credit Suisse and Goldman Sachs.

Consulting came next with 22% of the class numbering around 100 students accepting the offers. Boston Consulting Group was the biggest recruiter. Others included McKinsey & Co., Bain & Co., A.T. Kearney and Alvarez & Marsal.

In FMCG, the biggest recruiter was AB InBev. Others in the sector included Hindustan Unilever Ltd., Procter & Gamble, ITC, RB, Colgate Palmolive, Johnson & Johnson, Coca-Cola, General Mills, Dabur, Nestle and Jubilant Foodworks.

Technology firms, Capgemini, Microsoft, Tata Consultancy Services also continued their trend of hiring summer interns from IIMC.

Healthcare saw Dr. Reddy’s, Glenmark, Medtronic, Stryker, Boehringer Ingelheim coming up with roles across functional domains.

Conglomerates among the recruiters included the biggest recruiter Aditya Birla Group. Tata Administrative Services, Mahindra & Mahindra, Reliance, RPG, RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group and JSW were other recruiters in the domain.

Product Management, E-Commerce, and Operations took away 15% of the students. Top recruiters were Amazon, Uber, Cloudtail, Flipkart, OLX, Swiggy, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages among others. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited returned to the campus with four offers.

Technology firms, Capgemini, Microsoft, Tata Consultancy Services also continued their trend of hiring summer interns from IIMC.

The IIM also managed to attract 10% new recruiters. The first-timers included ADmyBRAND, Boehringer Ingelheim, Byju’s, Grofers, Kimberly Clark, PhonePe, Salesforce and Stryker. Several firms also offered international internships.

The summer internship is an integral part of the 2-year full-time Post-Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) program at IIM Calcutta. It is aimed at bridging the gap between the real-life business and classroom learning. The mandatory 8-week industry internship in the summer between the first and second year of the course provides the students’ opportunities to apply the concepts learnt in the classroom to real-life situations.

They get to understand the nuances of the workplace. They also get a platform to network and further their career prospects. Most firms offer students full-time positions based on the internships in the form of PPOs (pre-placement offers). The summer internships are also important as several firms, especially investment banks, hire on a strict PPO policy – they hire interns and after evaluating their work for the two months before making a pre-placement offer.
