Coursera Partners Macquarie to Launch Online Global MBA Program

The online learning platform Coursera has launched a full-time global MBA program in collaboration with Australia’s Macquarie University aimed at the future-focused professional who could be an independent consultant, the owner of a family business, a leader within your company or a self-starter looking for flexible online learning that doesn’t compromise on quality.

Offered through 24 courses across six specializations, namely, strategizing, leading, analyzing, adapting, influencing, it also includes a final capstone project, which integrates the five specializations.

The Global MBA has 2 intakes in 2019. The next cohort starts on May 6, 2019. The early admission deadline is on February 1 and final Deadline on April 8.

Coursera says the program is expected to meet the needs of tomorrow’s workplace that is seen as complex, challenging, and full of potential. Technology-enabled disruption is creating new markets and shifting the paradigm of how businesses work.

Giovanni Dubois, Coursera director, university partnerships, said students will be able to pick and choose courses according to his/her interest and convenience and finish at their own pace.

The 24-course full program could be completed in 12-18 months full-time (average 37.5 hours per week). You also get the option of taking individual course units. The teaching schedule is of six terms with 6 weeks devoted to each course. Students are allowed to club courses or take breaks as and when they like.

Applicants for direct admission to the degree program are required to have a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 5 out of 7 (Australian AQF Level 7 or recognized equivalent)

The 24 courses cost $1000 each, taking the cumulative cost to $24,000, compared to the on-campus program cost of $80,000.

Admission Criteria

You can apply for direct admission to the degree. Alternatively, you can apply after completing two or more of the Leading, Strategizing, Analysing and Influencing Specialisations with an average grade of at least 75%, with no individual course graded less than 60%.

Applicants for direct admission to the degree program are required to have a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 5 out of 7 (Australian AQF Level 7 or recognized equivalent)

Applicants who have not undertaken recognized studies taught in English (e.g. undergraduate degree) are required to demonstrate proficiency in English equivalent to an IELTS of 7.0 overall or equivalent, with a minimum 6.0 in reading, writing, speaking and listening.

Applicants also need to have three years of supervisory (including team/project leader) or professional experience. You are required to submit an application for admission directly to Macquarie University.

Along with the Application form, you have to submit a resume, including details of supervisory or professional experience, details of academic qualifications including academic transcripts and testaments. Two letters of recommendation, one of which must be professional are also needed. In the case of non-English speakers, IELTS or equivalent English Language results dated within the last 2 years are to be given.

A personal statement video (maximum length 1 minute) covering a brief introduction of yourself, why you are interested in the Global MBA and your expectations of the program is to be submitted

Alternatively, candidates will be admitted to the degree program based on their performance in Global MBA Specialisations. They will be invited into the degree when they complete at least two Specialisations from the Strategizing, Leading, Analysing and Influencing Specialisations. Each Specialisation consists of four courses. An overall grade average of 75% is required with no individual course grade below 60%.
