100% Placement for PGP At IIM Calcutta, Average Salary Goes Up to Rs 25.36 Lakh

Final Placement for the 54th PGP batch at IIM Calcutta saw the students receiving an average salary of Rs 25.36 lakh.

All the 441 students in the batch got placements with recruiters numbering 123 coming up with   501 job offers.

While the average cost-to-company (CTC) offer was Rs 25.36 lakh, the median offer was Rs 23.5 lakh. This year’s placement saw a substantial increase of Rs 1.16 lakh and Rs 1.5 lakh, respectively in the CTC.

Career Development & Placement Office (CDPO) Chairman Prof Abhishek Goel attributed the success of the fast-paced placement to a scheduling system some student volunteers had developed in collaboration with a Bangalore-based start-up.

The top recruiters in the Consulting sector include AT Kearney, Bain and Co., Boston Consulting Group and McKinsey & Co. Finance sector that saw Goldman Sachs, Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BAML), Citi, JP Morgan Chase and Deutsche Bank.

It was aimed at increasing efficiency and ensuring maximization of interface opportunities between students and recruiters. Automation also helped in the process, he added.

While 50% of the batch had accepted offers in Consulting (29%) and Finance (21%), General Management saw 14%. Sales and Marketing mopped up 12% and IT-Analytics 8%.

E-commerce, Operations and Product management also saw an upswing at 16%. A total of 68 offers came from these sectors.

E-commerce had Amazon, Uber, Udaan, Media.Net, Flipkart, Microsoft vying for the candidates.

“I am delighted to see such strong demand for the skill set of the participants of our MBA programme. This bears testimony to their talent and to the value added by the high-quality education that we impart at the institute,” IIM Calcutta Director Anju Seth said.

While the highest salary package for PGP 2017-19 batch was yet to be disclosed the highest package last year was Rs 75 lakhs.

IIM Calcutta has recorded a rising trend in compensation packages as seen over the last three years. In 2018, while the highest salary was Rs 75 lakh, the average salary stood at Rs 24.2 lakh. In 2017, the highest salary was Rs 70 lakh and an average salary of Rs 20 lakh.

Among the top recruiters, Accenture strategy tops the list with 24 offers. Others were Goldman Sachs, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Citi, JP Morgan Chase, Deutsche Bank and Avendus, AT Kearney, Bain & Co., The Boston Consulting Group, McKinsey & Co, EY-Parthenon, Alvarez & Marsal and PwC.
